The Ford Ranchero was a car and pickup truck combination vehicle that was produced and sold from 1957 until 1979 by the Ford Motor Company. The Ranchero was sold in the North American market. The Ranchero was notable because it was the first postwar American in this class that it was enough to inspire vehicles by other vehicle production companies such as General Motors, which was the Chevrolet El Camino. Many were drawn to the Ranchero because it was known to be Elvis Presley's favorite car.
The Ranchero had a variety of engines during its run from a 4.6 liter V8 to a 6.6 liter and generally it was thought to be well powered. Production of the Ranchero stopped because cars were getting smaller and trucks were getting bigger so the Ranchero didn't really have a place in the market anymore. Today, the Ranchero is a collectible that is not as well known as the El Camino, but just as desirable by those that know the Ranchero. In recent years the Ranchero style is becoming more and more attractive, and rumors have said that Ford will eventually bring back the Ranchero.
