The Ford Taurus is a midsized car that was manufactured and sold by the Ford Motor Company in the United States. The vehicle was first introduced in 1985 as a 1986 model and has sold an astonishing seven million units in the 20 years that it has been produced. The Taurus has a twin vehicle sold as the Mercury Sable that has done quite well, also.
In 1992 the Ford Taurus received an update and in 1996 it was given a full redesign. Between those years, the Taurus was the number one selling car in the United States, but in 1997 the Taurus lost the tile of best selling vehicle. The Taurus always sold quite well because it offered a very contemporary design that appealed to many groups of people. It is well known that the Taurus saved Ford from bankruptcy because it continued to sell so well over the years. The Taurus offered all the space and comfort that people expected from a sedan, with a powerful V6 engine that gave the car the pick up and go that buyers desire.
Sales started to drop off and customers were not nearly as satisifed with the Taurus as they once were, so in 2005 Ford decided to replace the Taurus in commercial markets with the Ford Five Hundred and the Ford Fusion. The Taurus may be produced until the 2007 model but will likely only be sold to fleet companies and to Canadia markets.
