429 Rebuild

I recently bought what i thought was a 460 for $100. When i got it home and tore into it i found that it needed rebuilt and was actually a 429. Everytime i priced a rebuild kit they asked if it was out of a car or truck, the price difference was $200. I have no clue what it came out of or what year it is, can anyone tell me what the difference is between a car and truck 429, and casting numbers on the block and crank does no good.

RE: 429 Rebuild

there are two main differences between the car and truck motor. compression ratio and the cam. the car engine usually has a higher compression ratio and the cam is cut for a good even horsepower band. the truck engine will usually have a slightly lower compression ratio and the cam is cut for torque. so one possable way to ID your engine would be to check the heads and pistons for numbers and find out what size combustion chambers are in the heads. then you can match up that size combustion chamber and piston dome with an engine that should be similar. this might help too, I own 2 429's out of a cars and both engins heads have the part number D3VE-AZA located next to the lower center head bolt between the exhaust outlet and the rocker cover. hope this helps.
