Could use some help with first engine build.

As the title says, this is my first engine built for a car. I've done some work with go karts before, but I've been wanting to build something more substantial. So my grand uncle has a '85 ish f150 xlt with a '78 351 Windsor (3rd engine) that he's willing to give me if I can get it to my house. I won't be fixing up the truck, because it has no title, no working brake system, was used for hauling shrimp, and has somewhere around 800k on the odometer. My question is, what is needed to get this engine to around 350-400hp with stock heads. I'm not sure how good the internals are because the engine supposedly has 250k on it, so I may upgrade the crank, rods and use 20 over pistons. I'm definitely going to upgrade the cam, and use a 4 barrel carb. So does anyone have any suggestions for brands that make good parts, or for a cam for these engines that will (with the right exhaust) will give it a low rumble at idle.

And please excuse my ignorance. I'm used to industrial 1 cylinders, not v8 engines.
