65 coupe with 302 injected and AOD Trans

Hi all hope this is in the right area. I'm in Australia and have a 65 Falcon Coupe I believe it the same as the cars over there. I'm putting a 302 injected engine with an AOD 4 speed into it. Just wondering if anyone has done a similar conversion. I've used the mounting kit from an American 260 as we only had 6 cylinders here. I was looking at ordering from Falcon Parts their C4 trans mount but not sure if it will suit the AOD as I'm not sure if the AOD is bigger other than the pan. I also need to track down the reverse light sender for the trans. I believe the trans is out of a 96 or 97 Mustang. Any help would be appreciated as most people over here use c4 or c10 trans.

Thanks
Darren

RE: 65 coupe with 302 injected and AOD Trans

Actually I had thought the Aussie and US Falcons had different body styles. There are some transmission/Ford specialists online who will sell the reverse switch. You may want the trans. mount for the AOD rather than the 260 engine although both might be handy to have - maybe even keep the 6 cylinder mount for the old trans. handy (you never know what might be a better fit without a dimensional chart to go by). AOD transmissions tend to be different in dimensions but may almost fit other mounts. Engine transplants can be summed up by their 3 worst problems - Engine mount (in relation to), Transmission mount (in relation to), driveshaft length. Once you have these three items in line the rest is a cake walk. If you don't have a driveshaft balancer or serviceperson handy - you may want to position the new trans. in the best area for it to engage the driveshaft firstand then bolt on the engine. Keep in mind to allow the driveshaft proper travel distance (don't shove it against the tailhousing and remember the suspension will make it travel forward and back - give it some leeway (at least an inch)). If you aren't worried about the driveshaft you'll have a lot more flexibility in where the engine-trans. assembly goes.

Thanks going strong, the engine bays are the same i believe, some panels maybe different though, Got the 260 engine mounts and the engine seems to fit fine. Now I've got part two as you mentioned getting the trans mount sorted out as you mentioned and then need to look at the tail shaft length. im looking at putting the 8" dragster rear diff in.
