65 Galaxie 500 Convertible Wheel Size and Recommendations?

5 Attachment(s)
the 65 galixie convertible im planing to buy has a set of rusty craiger wheels n im tring to deiced what would look best on it. im considering going to coker to get some 2 1/4" white walls on some vintage style wire or steel wheels. my question is what bolt pater would it have being a 5 lug and how wide of a rim should i get, a 15x6 or 15x7?

Thanks in Advance, Alice

edit: forgot to mention im thinking of running 205/75R15 for good ride on the car unless i should run some different size u guys recommend.

coker is recommending a 1" white wall mounted on a primer/painted 15x5 with a smooth baby moon cap and trim ring

edit: still dont know what 5 lug bolt patern the cars have though

when buying new rims and tires one has to consider a couple of issues first and foremost the rim has to fit the bolt pattern which I think is 5" on 5 I could be wrong and then the tire that you're going to have on the car can't be so big that it rubs the fenders or frame while turning and things such as that. the wider the rim the wider the tire to achieve the look that you want if the rim is six inches wide you can go with 215-70-R15 it is same hight as as the 205 but just a little wider on the tread

i got a reply from coker tires. thew said to make it look the most period correct and best fit i should get the American Classic 1 Inch Whitewall - 205/75R15. then mount them on the Hot Rod Steel Primed - 15x5 5 on 4 1/2 bolt pattern. then to use Ford '40 Deluxe Moon Cap - 8 1/4 Inch back I.D. with an Trim Ring - 15 Inch Hot Rod Smooth.

do you think the look would pop on a 65 galaxie convertible?

that sounds about right. but, with the snow and ice that we get here in the lower midwest you should know that traction is key in getting around if you can get a wider rim and match the tire to it you would be better off I forgot the rain as well that's why I say to get the 70 series tires you can still get the white wall ring. most of the galaxies were not hot rods

im not trying to make a hot rod out of the one i buy. in fact the stock 352 fe with factor air probably never live up to the power it has with me. i love the look and want to paint it red for a nice cru for going to church and my dr appointments only going to drive it 1-3 times a week with is full time for me since i cant work do to my disability.

consider this as well the galaxies didn't come with baby moons on the rims either they had wheel covers that covered the whole rim. but, if that's what you like then go for it it would look cool with the baby moons just have the wider tires mounted on the rims

yeah baby moons fazed out in the mid 50s i know. closest hubcaps i can find for it are from Dearborn Classics. they are remakes for a 66 though. i like the caps but not sure would look beter the baby moons or reproduction hub caps.

your car looks just like a 66 even though it's a 65 so the caps would look more like the original factory style wheel covers

so u recommend the 66 reproduction caps on a steel rim then and 1" white wall. i got admit the 65 and 66 atre close. just simple changes like the 66 has non hidden turn signals in the grill wher 65 they hidden behind the grill. also the 66 moved the galixie 500 trim from the front fenter to the rear quarter panels. its little changes in trim and shape of taillights basically. but since im not building a show car and more a restro mod i can drive i bet 66 caps would look fine.

but 1 thing i just thought about. since i want to upgrade the 4 wheel power drum brakes to a 4 piston front and single piston rear disc brakes by SSBC Performance Brake Systems, should i just go something custom wheels like the hurst rims or something.
