aod trans. application

Can someone give me advice as to what model aod trans. would be good to put behind a 280 hp. 302? I have this ina 65 ranchero and have an 8" rear end, with 355 gears.

The 351 and the 302 sport the same bell housing so any AOD perferably out of like a LTD or big Merc or something like that. There will need to be driveshaft modifications shift linkages to figure out and so forth. An AOD with 3:55 gears would be a great combo had a full sized conversion van with that combo and got 18 miles per gallon for gas mileage and it would get up and go also.:)

I have an AOD behind a 351w with an 8" 3:55 rear in my Falcon. The AOD had some problems early on and Ford improved it along the way so the best ones are the newest ones. 92 or 93 was the last one made. The strongest ones were in trucks/vans. Next strongest were v8 Mustangs and SC? T-birds. PM me when you get to setting up the TV shift, I've done a couple of them. It's not hard once you get the right advice and setting it wrong can fry your tranny quick.

89 & up have stronger parts
go to lentechautomatics for all things AOD
or baumann `has a` good site too.
you wil not be happy unless you get a valve body which willl give you control over 1,2,3 shifts
lentech has a great one, you control all shifts & gives you switch to control overdrive
