coil too hot
1965 Galaxy. 351 windsor, mallory unilite distributor, engine starts and runs great, with key in on position and engine off coil melts and cracks. First coil was stock, second coil was accel high enery breakerless.
Ballast resister has been removed(since no points)? Thanks for suggestions Sincerely, Galaxy Man |
Ballast resistor is there to keep the current down, through your coil. In '55, we had 6-volt systems and NO ballast resistor.
Your coil should be 12-volt with a BUILT-IN ballast resistor (unless your new ignition system doesn't need it). In any case, your coil shouldn't get cracklin' hot. |
