bought a 1 wire gm alt, brackets, and install kit from falconparts.com. anyone made this conversion? still dont understand how horn, lights, will get power. looks to me like the engine is the only place power is going to. install on 64 ranchero 260

There had to be a feed from the battery positive most likely at the starter solenoid on the fenderwell or firewall that contained a fusible link and that wire then supplied power into the vehicle fuse panel inside the vehicle.
You will still need to provide some means to activate the alternator field so it can begin to produce power. This can be accomplished with a separately controlled relay that might be controlled by the ign sw. The relay would need to be able to handle the load of whatever the charging system voltage regulator required. There are other means to control when the alt starts to produce power and it would be best if you followed the directions that came with your kit.

Thank you for your reply. like an idiot i had forgotten about the solenoid lead. and of course the only instructions were an online basic install to get the alt to charge, nothing more. once i get thru my phys rehab and back to working on the car I will get this figured out.
