MOTOR SWAP PRBLEMS

i am putting a 302 out of a ford ranger in my 61 fairlane, the pan hits the crossmember before the mounts set in to the crossmembercrossmember hits the pan about in the center of pan. is there a different pan i can use or do i cut and notch this one. i have seen pans that look like they have 2 sumpssort of a small one in back with 2 drain plugs that might workcar originally had a 292 y-block and that pan was pretty thin but was a front sumpalthough the pump ran outside the panalso what headers will workwas told headers for a 67 mustang might-thanks-email me at caulk1@aol.com if you like

Double-hump 302 pan. Ford Motorsport made them for years. What engine was in the Fairlane? Should have traded for a 260 or 289. I thought I remembered the '64 6 cyl. Fairlane mounts added up with the 260 mounts and pan configuration. Could the problem be the oil pan andpickup just need changed sides? (fr. to back or back to fr.) I thought they still sold the double hump/sump pans - but I haven't checked lately. I never liked them. The pickup is only on one side over pumping the oil on the pickup side and letting the rest mostly useless. A split double pickup tube would help that.

Okay I see. It had a Y-block. They are different than a few years newer. You said '61. I saw the 260 in a '63 - So somewhere in between was the changeover in engine style. If you had a front sump pan - I'd measure the 292 pan and compare a front sump 302 pan. Maybe you could carefully hammer out the difference if the pickup tube will work with you. Try installing the 302 and then bolting in the pickup tube. If that works it's likely mostly a pan issue.
