RE: Ranchero -72 steering gear

It is only really possible if Rancheros of your general year had the manual gear boxes. Then you would have to find one in a salvage yard and be sure it bolts on the same and has nearly the same angles on the linkages. Then you would have to check exact center to center of the bolt holes when you unbolt the gearbox. Last you have to check the tilt of the steering column to see if they match (often they're off a bit). If they're close enough you can probably work with it - just make sure to get as much of the steering parts from the donor car as possible.(gearbox, column, arms, links andspindles).

RE: Ranchero -72 steering gear

Your 72 Ranchero is the same as any Ford big car of the era. So Galaxies, wagons, etc. are all the same. What I'm curious is why would you want manual steering in a 4000 lb car? You'd have fore arms like Popeye after driving that!
