1998 Ford Contour heat/defrost

Hi,.....my son's 1998 Ford Contour heat/defrost is not working. When u turn it on there is no heat/defrost...no sound, no air blowing out. Could it be the fuse is dead? Thanks Valerie

RE: 1998 Ford Contour heat/defrost

We just replaced the heater blower switch on my wife's 1996 Contour. It was pretty easy to get to (easier than the Haynes manual shows actually as that appears to be written for an earlier model.

Sad part is there was apparently an extension on the warranty for this for at least her year but it ended. It had slightly melted the plastic housing of the connector but it still works.

There was a recall on the blower motor wiring harness/ resistor years ago for this. The telltale thing to look for is the melted connector at the blower motor housing, (burnt and melted), and also at the controls in the dash, (also burnt and/or melted). The recall is still honored at any Ford Dealer, and you can go to Ford's website and look up the recalls, just enter your VIN number. Hope this helps!
