Brake Light problem
I was just informed by Ford Service Dept. that the two brake lights won't power up due to a broken part that is no longer being manufactured by Ford. It is: F8RZ-14489-ZB -- where can I find a replacement part if Ford is no longer making it? Or can we use a similar part from a different Ford? Lights were fine going in for the inspection but then I was told bulbs were out, then it changed to that this part is bad. Car runs perfectly except for this issue as it won't pass inspection without the two brake lights. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

RE: Brake Light problem
Is this a 98 Contour?
The F8RZ 14489 ZB will cross to a Focus brake switch connector of YS4Z 13480 AA |
RE: Brake Light problem
It is a 1997 Contour 4 cylinder -- will your suggestion still work? It is a great car -- only 55,000 miles on it -- and hoping my son can drive it for another year before getting a new car. Thanks!

You can fabricate replacement connector by buying a universal Ford multipin connector through your dealor. Use a small hand coping saw to trim away outer plasic so that the terminals line up with the male pins on back side of the turn signal switch which powers the brake light circuit.
