2002 Crown Victoria Overheating Issues, Any Advice, Appreciated!

Alright,

I have a 4.6 2002 167,000 Crown Victoria.

During the past year; I have put in as much as I can afford into this vehicle to get it running right but I cannot find what's wrong.

Thermostat replaced, hoses replaced, radiator good, compression test to see if any leaks and none.

I turn on the car and within a minute it's already wanting to shut off indicating that it's over heating but it's cold. I shut it off and leave it like that for a bit and then start it and it's fine.

When it rains it over heats big time too.

I recently took it to a mechanic, he went the muffler and indicated that there is water in the exhaust and believes the problem is a cracked head.

Now, quite honestly; that's very expensive work, and I don't know how to do that. The car just over heats for no particular reason, it has water, everything checked.

Does it sound like a cracked head to you?

We tried putting in blue devil, and followed all of the instructions; it helped for a week but today it's back at it; same symptoms.

If it's a cracked head, would you fix that? How much on average to fix?

Or would you purchase a rebuilt engine?

Any advice, would be helpful bec. I am very exhausted mentally at this issue. Thanks!

welcome to the sight and you need to have someone look at the exhaust while it's running if you see steam coming out of it then you're probably going to have to replace the head gasket. both options ain't very cheap. if it were mine i would be looking for another engine if determined the head went bad. do you lose antifreeze any at all?
