Default Maxx 65S Battery - Zero Specific Gravity?

1989 Ford Crown Victoria. New Maxx 65Sbattery installed due to dead battery caused by sticking fuel relay (earlier post). Present problem.......

Before installing this new battery, I checked the specific gravity with a hydrometer and all cells registered perfect. New battery was also run down by the sticking fuel pump relay (relay since replaced).

I charged the battery for a hour with a commercial charger, after which the specific gravity registered absolute zero, zilch, nothing, with the hydrometer, BUT the battery is charged and appears to be fine. It starts the vehicle and no further problems have been encountered (so far). Hydrometer checks okay with other batteries.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? I am a marine mechanic (OMC) with over 30 years experiencebut have never encountered anything likethis. I don't see how this could be related to aFord product.... could it?

Nope, it's a battery problem.
