Steering Problem
I have a 2003 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor 4.6L. I was driving it yesterday and out of nowhere, the steering wheel got really hard to turn. I was able to still drive the car, but driving around corners wasnt easy. Naturally I assumed that it was the power steering pump. So this morning, I put a new power steering pump and pulley in the car. Much to my surprise the steering is still very hard to turn. Any suggestions on what the problem might be if its not the pump? Thanks!

I personally have not had any problems but I have read where the two joints in the steering shaft can make them turn hard. It was said to spray them down and if they improved the problem lies within. Sunfish

My 98 had the same problem one day. Hard to turn and it wouldn't "return" to straight on its' own. Replaced the steering box - not the problem - money waisted. Finally found that one lower ball joint had all but siezed up and wasn't allowing the steering knuckle to turn freely. Replaced the ball joint (with greasable one) and problem solved. ;) |
