Default trans problems

I have a 1994 ford crown vic LX non police unit. The trans ran out of fluid, not the smartest thing i can say ive done. But I added fluid and it worked fine, but then now it wont go forward just reverse, I changed the filter and fluid, still nothing. Just wondering if the trans or the torque converter took a crap? I found a trans for mine for under a 100 bucks and it comes with a torque converter. but I dont want to go thru the bs if I dont need to. Any help would be appreciated.

Default RE: trans problems

For a hundred bucks I'd damn sure take the deal if the new trans is low miles (under 100,000), your year, for your model car and that cheap. Running an automatic minus the fluid usually minorly skunks it all internally by warping surfaces (not to mention clutch plate and band burnout). Besides - a rebuild on the old one would run WAAAAY more than that at any real shop.
