1988 Econoline Van E250
 

Trying to get my 1988 Ford Econoline van running. Was driving down the road and it started doggin out and losing speed. I pulled over then it quit running and won't start again. Have changed module on side of distributor, changed fuel filter, air filter, and spark plugs. I can hear the fuel pump when turning the key also. Any ideas? Im in desperate need. Thanks.

Do you hear the fuel pump turn on for a second or two when you turn key to 'Run' position?
Do you get a spark at plug?

It starts and idles for 4-5 minutes then stalls. I have replaced the fuel filter, fuel regulator, high pressure fuel pump. Any ideas on what else to check?

Carb loading up?

Invest a small amount of money and get a fuel pressure gauge. Then connect that to the pressure tap on the fuel rail and see just what the fuel pump is doing or not doing. You also have a low pressure fuel pump in the fuel tank.
Also, as someone just mentioned , are you getting spark at the spark plugs when it quits running? The engine requires both fuel and spark to run .

Ok guys, I have 30 psi of pressure on fuel rail. Van runs for 4 -5 mins then the pressure goes down to 20 then down to 0 and stalls out. Have replaced the fuel filter twice, high pressure fuel pump, fuel pump relay, fuel regulator. After a few mins, I can restart the van and runs again for 4-5 mins and repeats the same. Any ideas? I'm stumped.

I don't believe it is the low pressure pump in the tanks because of the same result on either tank I switch too.

Fuel pressure for your van should be at least 35 -45 PSI for 5.0 , 5.8 engines.

You are losing pressure somewhere. What you can try, is to pinch off the return line from the pressure regulator and see what you get.
If it is now normal and holds , get another pressure regulator.
If it is still low , there is the possibility both pumps are bad or the hi pressure one is defective. I know it hurts to buy parts from Ford, but you only buy and change them once !
