2012 E 150 Cluster

Replaced Cluster in 2012 E150 Works Great, But Cant start, Lock out icon on dash is lit

For your year vehicle the instrument cluster is one of the modules in the CAN network.

A capable scan tool will be required to check what is not right.

I don't know if the scan tool you have ordered can do what may be required.

Suggest you check before purchase.

now the Forscan I read about, it that a software add on to the tool, or something different altogether?

About 90% sure that you will need Forscan to program the new module, the instrument cluster, PCM, and BCM all require programming for the PATs system to work correctly so the vehicle can start.
Basically all the modules have to have matching VIN data stored so that people cant just switch out a module and steal a vehicle.

Thanks, web, getting Forscan adaptor and downloading ALL the updates

TCS plug

Not sure if this helps but I took my dash out to install a radio and I wanted to test the radio before putting the dash back together and had the same issue you had. I had a lot of the dash plugs unplugged yet and I couldn't believe that not having all the plugs in would cause an issue, but I couldn't start the car? So I put the plugs back in to each spot and then I everything functioned correctly again? I could only figure that the plug it was looking for being reconnected was the TCS plug for the traction control system. I didn't waste time proving that out but just double check you have that plug in and in correctly. Hope that provides some help in your case.
