Brake light problem
I have a 2002 E-150- the brake lights at the rear do not work.
I checked the fuse and replaced the bulbs, no change. There is a third brake light in the center top, working fine (does this indicate the pedal switch is okay)- all other lights are working fine. Any suggestions? |
I believe the stop lites get their signal through the signal lite switch on the steering column. Do your 4 way flashers work?
|
Yes, the flashers work fine.
I think it is the same element in the bulb that operates for the brakes and the flasher. Is it worth replacing the pedal switch if the top center light works? or is that just a waste of time? |
Why not try to jump the wires at the stoplite switch and see if that allows the brake lites to come on. If it does then you know the switch is defective.

Brake lights not working 2000 ford expedition
Having the same problem just replaced the pedal switch and there not working anything else I can do

If you have access to a test lite or voltmeter check if you have voltage at the stop lites themselves. If yes , then either there is a poor ground for the lites or the bulbs are defective. It is rare that either of those would involve both lites at the same time.
The stop lite signal usually passes through the signal lite switch. If you tried the same tests as suggested in an earlier post and the hazard flashers work , it would most likely be a problem with the signal lite switch assy. Which by the way is not that difficult to replace. |

Replaced pedal switch
I couldn't find the problem, so I took it to the dealer, they said they replaced the pedal switch and now it works fine.
