Driveability of e-150 van
I have need of a handicap van. I purchased a 1999 e150 with chair lift. It was a pain to keep it between the yellow lines and after what seemed a small fortune in dollars in frontend work it was still a pain. Looked for another and found a 03 model and test drove it. Same story. Both of these rigs had less than 70,000 miles. I really like the vans for room and looks but am wondering if they are all going to have same problem? The first van had ball joints, shocks, stabilizer bushings, steering gear, tires and lineup. Second van I didn't want to hog up all the fun so let him keep it. Question is, do they all have this wandering problem? Thank you.

Sometimes steering box adjustments are performed, steering linkage with wear at the pivots , different tires, correct tire pressure, and vehicle load distribution all come into the picture.

I installed a steering damper and it made a noticeable difference.

I have owned several E 150s and all steered poorly.

As I posted today, in another thread. My E-150 hightop conversion (it was a wheelchair van at one time) never had bad steering until I replaced the tires. I can't drive it now. And yes they are the same size. P235/75/r15 all season. Going to play with psi to see if it helps.
