Engine identification?

My dad just bought this Econoline with an engine transplant. I'm trying to ID the engine so I can sort out some of the issues. Following are a few pics, thanks in advance for the help! :)

:o Ok, just found this on the drivers valve cover, I'm embarrassed now...

Apparently the engine swap story was complete BS!

88 Econoline with an 88 engine, maybe rebuilt?

Welcome to the site, no worries..

What kind of issues are you having?

Hi Hayapower!

Thanks for the welcome, the engine appears rebuilt, though the engine reinstall was shoddy. A few different plugs on the engine harness go to nothing, and the valve covers were reinstalled without the proper gaskets. I just picked up the manual today, & will certainly have a few more questions as I bring everything up to par.

Until then, have a good weekend!

The valve covers should be sealed down tight with RTV silcone.. Problem with gaskets was, that with heat expansion/cooling that the gaskets and cover bolts 'will' eventually work loose and the covers leak, especially if cork composite.. And under the plenum tough to get at. Nothing worse then the smell of burning oil on the exhaust manifolds.
