How do I remove the steering wheel?
 

I want to remove the metal horn ring on my '63 Econoline steering wheel but can't figure it out?:confused: Help needed!

If I remember correctly the horn button in the center of the ring pops off with a little help , Some you depress the button and give it a quarter turn counter clockwise , There should be a spring under the horn button itself.The screws of which I believe are 3, hold the horn ring in place.
Like I stated , this goes back a bit and I don't always, more like rarely, remember correctly. Let us know if this was any help!

My horn rim is a solid wheel. I added a pic. Should I use dynamite?:confused:

If there are no screws under the spokes, then with the battery disconnected or the wires removed from the horn(s) try turning the whole ring counterclockwise while pressing it down in the center and see if that allows it to be removed.

OK! I pushed down on the horn wheel, turn counter-clockwise and it popped right off! Alright, this is easy! I removed the large nut. The steering wheel did not come off. Now what?:confused:

OK that was the hard part.
You have two choices,
1. Use a steering wheel puller designed for the removal job.
2. Put the nut back on the steering shaft,flush with the top of the shaft not all the way down. Sitting in the driver's seat, place both knees under the steering wheel putting pressure under the steering wheel to push it up. A quick rap with a hammer to the nut while holding the knees under the steering wheel trying to lift it and the steering wheel should pop up off the tapered splines of the steering shaft. Has always worked for me even though I had the puller. Just be careful not to beat up the nut or the threads in the steering shaft,this is where you could use a brass hammer. After that push the steering wheel down hand tight and center punch two light marks to line up the steering wheel to its original position when replacing it, one on the shaft and one on the steering wheel, both marks next to one another just like timing marks. The rest is up to you for the original reason for wanting to remove the steering wheel in the first place. DON'T GET CARRIED AWAY WITH THE BIG HAMMER, JUST KIDDING,
