Pinion shaft lockpin 5/16 in., removal.....
My van is a 2001 E150, and I am trying to do a rear wheel bearing and seal replacement job. I got a new lockpin (with loctite on it) from my local Ford dealer, but I am having trouble getting the old one out. I've got a 5/16 th socket (6 point) with a 1/4 in stub plugged into it, and a 1/4 in box wrench around the stub. It feels pretty good when I fit it onto the bolt head, but the bolt won't move, even with some hammer taps, and the head is starting to round over. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Tried a little heat yet?
Heat and some stiff hammer taps to the head of the pin, it should break loose. |
Depending on what source of heat you choose to use , you might want to keep a fire extinguisher handy !

I will try some heat, probably with a heat gun. Using a torch under there is too scary for me. I also found that there are screw removal tools specifically for this application, because so many of these lockpins shear off when removed.
Thanks guys! |
