Suspension Diagnostics
2001 E-150 conversion van 122 K.
My van seems to drift(wonder) at highway speeds, The front tire wear is consistent. any advice on how to diagnose the front suspension. Thanks |
In most cases a pull or drift is tire related. Before I did anything, check inflation then I would swap front and rear tires and see if the problem goes away or changes. After that, you need to have the front end inspected for any worn parts or possibly a steering gearbox needing adjustment. I would have an experienced mechanic inspect these items for you..

thanks

There is a specific sequence for adjusting a steering box. Most shops never get involved doing that.
If you cannot find any tire/wheel problem or worn suspension/steering linkage parts, the box might hold the answer. There have been MANY problems with different makes of tires resulting with this type problem. What brand of tires are presently on your vehicle? |
I have; Micellen tires, the thread is about 70 percent, and constant wear. When I stops raining plan on getting under it for a more detailed inspection
|
You are not the first owner to have problems with Michelin tires. I have had a problem with them too and when I switched to a different brand the problem went away.
|
Michelin is one of the better brands out there. No need to trash talk them. People hit a huge pot hole then expect their tires to behave like new.
|
There are other folks on the forum that experienced the same problem with that brand.
Check it out. |

Dear Raski: It's me again. Your smart about Front suspensions. Just pretend you were putting a 2001 Ford 150 Lariat front suspension together. Would it include the following? Struts, shocks, wheel berrings and of course wheels..are there any other major parts that makeup the front suspension? Thank you, by what you say is what I am going to order for my truck.. I know you know. Thanks-a-million Cindy here;) |
