Trans Oil cooler - anyone know if I can change out the fittings?
 

I'm cross-posting as I got no response from the "General" site....
I picked up this Ford oil cooler (stamped "F2UH-7A095-BE") - see attached pix.
I did a little checking and maybe it was from a 1993 Ford E350 van?

Well, it has push-on hose fittings and I would like to replace them with some male or female -AN fittings to fit some hoses that I already have made up.

The hose fittings have a hex at the base, and after soaking them in some penetrant, I tried to unscrew them, but there's more resistance than I want to exert -- thinking maybe these are NOT removeable fittings.

ANYONE ever remove these fittings before?
Are they removeable?
If so, has anyone ever removed these fittings before?
Clockwise or counterclockwise?
Can I try heat, or might this produce a leak?

I believe that the nuts over the fittings are torqued on (and probably have some type of thread lock on them) and are only for mounting the cooler to the mounting bracket.

So are you saying that the hose barbs cannot be removed -- just the nut around them? ...so I can't replace the barbs with an -AN male or female screw on fitting?

The cooler fittings I believe were an integrated part to the cooler assembly with the nuts attaching it to the mounting bracket..

Being the OE slip hose fittings have a extended reach, you may be able to trim off the lip end and use a aluminum tubing compression fitting to NPT or another profile..

Now there's an idea! I will have a closer look. Very novel approach (AT LEAST FOR ME).
