wiring Q when reinstalling steering wheel
I made a mistake. There, I've said it.
I pulled the steering wheel on my 1986 Ford cutaway to repair the four way flasher switch. I forgot to make a note of the electrical connections and now I'm not sure where the ground wire for the horn goes. It appears to fit into a hole you'd use to pull the steering wheel with a puller. Is this right? I don't see anywhere else to connect it. (The other curved two terminal connector was easy to figure out.) Thanks, Ron |
Does your steering wheel have a contact ring on the underside that contacts a carbon brush that stays stationary in the column? I'm asking this strictly from memory and will have to check this also.

Good question. There is a double ring under the wheel. The column has a pin in one spring loaded hole and the other hole has a spring sticking up, but nothing in the spring. You may be onto something. Most likely when I took the wheel off the piece popped out of the spring. It looks like it would be pretty small, I may be SOL looking for it. But I'll give it a shot.
Thank you, Ron |
Again this goes back to memory, the carbon brush is about a 1/4 in diameter and about 1/2 in long and of course black. That is what usually fits into the spring . I don't know if that part is still available and you may need to try a boneyard . The part usually came with the spring attached.

OK, thanks again.
The piece is missing so it looks like I'll be making junk yard treks. Ron |
