2008 Edge SEL suspension/engine mt noises

We bought a 2008 Edge with 110,000 miles a month ago. This week I got a check engine light about an open injector. Last night I swapped the injector and changed the spark plugs since they were original. During the test drive I noticed a fairly significant rattle/thump whenever hitting the slightest bump. It was late so I didn't really look into it too closely, but I thought I would post here to try and get a head start. I watched a video about changing the passenger side engine mount. Is this something I should consider doing? There's also a torque mount underneath. Anything I should know about this? Could this be front struts? Any tips for trying to find/figure out this noise? I don't have a lift so it's garage only. Thanks,

Roveer

Welcome to the site..

Can you duplicate the concern stationary?
Forcefully compressing/releasing the suspension manually? Meaning a bounce affect applied on the body to range the suspension travel..
If you need or want to have a go at the tasks, or a look prior to the work at the job steps, we can help with some illustrations.
You wouldn't need a lift, but would need stands, jack etc.
Struts a possibility, but seems suspect since the noise started all of the sudden (?)..

Thanks for the reply. it's not my daily driver so I don't have a history with noises/problems. I did have it on the highway about a 15 days ago and I don't remember hearing this thumping. I'm going to look at it more tonight. So I have an idea what I should look for, if I flex (forward & reverse) while looking, what should I look for? Engine movement? Movement on that lower torque mount? Is that funky engine mount known to wear out? I'm over 110k miles. Would be nice to know that this is a common issue you could check it by doing x, but I'ts probably not going to work that way. Again, any suggestions in diagnosing would be great.

I've watched a few videos and have a good idea on how to do the engine mount. I just have to figure out what needs to be replaced (mounts, struts etc) as these parts are not cheap.

Thanks,

Roveer

Engine mount concerns will sometimes show up visually, or, you can power brake (hold the brakes down ‘tight’) the engine by holding the brake, applying moderate/ hard throttle and a quick’ release’. Certainly done in an area not to risk damage or personal harm...
Do it in D and R..
You can also drop it from one to the other (D-R and back) but with only ‘lite throttle’ when doing so changing gear selections. If there’s excessive wear on the mounts, quite often the engine will rise up, thump etc..
On the suspension, same thing, visual inspection first, along with possibly a helper applying an up/down force on the body. Sometimes worn bushings, joints etc will make a noise or you may feel the looseness. Also, turn the steering ‘stop to stop’ and sometimes steering joints etc will produce noise or thumps if play is there.

Sometimes a combination of compressing the suspension while turning the steering can help duplicate conditions. With a helper available, and watching the lower components may point to the cause/s..
