Default Axle seal replacement

My friend has a 2008 Ford Edge Limited... It just had it's 100000 mile dealer service...The dealer says it needs the power steering fluid changed and a front axle seal replaced... They want allot of money and I would like to help her out, I've changed half shafts before and was wondering if theres anything special about this one... Also any advice on replacing the P.S. fluid. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
Chip

If you are referring to the right hand axle seal. Then do not attempt. There are a multiple amount of special tools required for the repair. To be fair the dealer should only charge 2 hours to do the seal and the seal kit should be under $50. Depending when they remove the right hand side intermediate shaft and inspect it for pitting or damage it may require one of those as well. If it is find you should be out of the dealer less then $350 max. It is not a simple axle seal replacement and would not recommend attempting unless you know exactly what your are doing.

As someone with considerable mechanical experience but is new to the flex, what's the trick. Is there a way to get that seal out without dropping the exhaust or do you have a lead on a slide hammer long enough to do that?
