Blue wire that controls the windows finally broke :(

Hello,

I came across this after my windows stopped working in my Ford Edge 2014:

I tried to solder the broken metal connector but was unable to fit it back into the plastic holder after. I'm going to have to cut the broken connector off, strip the wire, reconnect to another wire that has a new metal connector.

My question is:

1) What kind of wire is that blue wire since I will need to get the same type in order to connect
2) What kind of metal connector do I need (like the others have), what is the name?
3) How will I crimp the mental connector back onto the fixed wire. What kind of crimper tool would work?

I'm a noob trying to learn. Thank you for any help you can give!

Didn't watch your youtubes.

1) Should be 14 AWG
2) Check Screenshot below:

3) That's called open barrel type.
If you need to extend the 14AWG wire for a few inches use non-insulated butt connector and heat shrink tube after.
Example:
Before buying the terminals shown on (2) above, depin the connector first to find out which exact type.

Thank you!

Thank you so much for the reply!! I have a few more questions now that I have a better understanding.

1) "Should be 14 AWG" is there away to find out 100% if it is 14 AWG?
3) "That's called open barrel type." Perfect. Just to double check, the open barrel connector that was attached to the blue wire, it's not a Ford proprietary thing is it?

To connect the open barrel connector I would need this tool, correct? To connect the butt connector would it be this tool?

1) Go to RockAuto and look for the power window electrical connector (repair harness), then look for motorcraft brand, there you can see they use 14 AWG.
I would say 90% it's 14AWG, 5% 12AWG, 5% 16AWG. When you get the butt connector it fits multiple awg size like 12 to 14 and 14-16, it doesn't has to be exact 14 AWG, it will crimp tight and correctly. If you are still worry about the exact size you can get the butt connector set like:
2) Not Ford proprietary, all auto makers use open barrel type, the difference is the tip. That's why I previously attached a set with so many different tip. Simply use pick tool or small flathead to depin yours first then you know which one exactly.

3) The 2nd Amazon link you sent that was only wire stripper and basic crimper. You can get the same thing at harbor freight. It's up to you, if you plan to do a bit more wiring you should get a crimper with quick-release jaw like this: so you can do more than just open barrel terminals, so many different crimping dies to choose from.

1) I went to RockAuto and looked under "Part Catalog>FORD>2014>EDGE>3.5L V6>Electrical-Connector" searched for "power window electrical connector" the only thing that came up was "power window switch connector". Taking a look at the pictures of the parts they're not the correct connector like in the videos in my first post. Would you happen to have a direct link where you found it? Awesome butt connect set!
2) From what I can tell from the barrel types and the image from your post, looking at the connector that came from the blue wire, it's the one in the bottom row, 5th from the right. What is the specific name of that open barrel type?
3) Whoa, now that is a crimper to rule all crimpers. Good find and thank you!

Thank you again for your help heiko! :)

I was looking at power window switch connector. If you need window motor connector just type "window" and make it simple, at the search box next to 3.5 V6 so it searches globally on your car (and not under "electrical connector") like shown below:

Sorry maybe I'm not seeing it. I tried "power window switch connector" and "window motor connector" and I still don't see that connection type when I look at the images on RockAuto. I've attached an image. A is the connection type I'm looking for, B is the open barrel type I'm looking for (it's the one in the bottom row, 5th from the right from your Amazon Terminal Pin)

Unless I'm wrong (and please correct me) it looks like it's this "Aptiv 54001401 Apex 2.8 Male Tin Plated Terminal, 16-14 Ga., Loose Piece" https://www.waytekwire.com/product/a...id=17335620132

2.8mm series is included in the Ayzar brand shown above. Say a 10-pin connector, you wouldn't see a AWG huge difference within the same connector, one pin with 12AWG and another pin with 20AWG, no. You see 2AWG difference, like 14-16AWG, or 16-18AWG, not 14-18AWG. If a single wire is significantly thicker that wouldn't go into the same connector.

Thank you for the tip heiko!! Just to double check. I used my digital calipers and got the following from the connector I was able to de-pin. will the 2.8mm series in that set still work / fit back?

Would this 14 AWG wire choice be ok?

Thank you again for all your help heiko!
