2001 Escape ABS Light

My ABS light came on while on a roadtrip, about 2 hours into driving and it's been on ever since, every time I drive it. About a week now. My truck isn't performing any differently but I was hoping there is some simple reason for this, maybe avoid a trip to the dealership!

Thanks!

RE: 2001 Escape ABS Light

The simplest reason is that the ABS module senses a problem somewhere in the system. First check the brake fluid level, if the fluid is too low this will set the ABS light, but should also turn on the red brake warning light. An ABS problem will NOT effect the regular operation of the brakes, you just won't have ABS if yo need it.

You will have to get the codes checked, either by a dealer or a technician with the correct type of scan tool.

RE: 2001 Escape ABS Light

Thanks so much!!

I do have a very minor leak, I have to top up my brake fluid from time to time. Funny thing is that I had just topped it up a day or 2 before the ABS light came on. Now the brake light itself did come on a couple days ago while I was driving to work, then on my way home it went off.

Guess I'll have to bite the bullet and take it in :)

Thanks again for the input!
