2002 V6 Escape Instrument Cluster resets itself while driving

I have a 2002 V6 Escape XLT with all the options. The problem is that when driving at random times, the Tach and the Speedometer pinned all the way to the right then go to zero and back to where they should be. It seems just before that happens, the car hesitates just a bit, if any. Any help would be great!!!

That sounds like it could be an electrical issue or something in the wiring... Hillsboro Oregon Mercedes Benz Auto Repair Mechanic Service Center

Might want to check out VSS , vehicle speed sensor.

Not only the speedometer, but also the gas indicator and the tachometer

Have same problem

have same trouble anyone had any luck finding cause?Thinking of replaceing cpu

The reason I suggested checking the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) is because some manufacturers tied the VSS into the same circuit as some of the rest of the gauges. Unless you were aware of this possibility you would never expect them to share the same circuitry.

I have a 2003 that does the same thing. I noticed the dash lights also blink when this happens too. The gauges peg and then go to normal. Did anyone try the VSS ? Or resolve? I was thinking the panel may be bad and replace it. Its just dash screws and a few connections.
