2007 Escape Trans Fluid Change Question
Hi, thanks for reading:
I have on 07 V6 auto with 170K miles. Did a drain and fill myself. Before draining, level was at bottom of cross hairs when hot. I drained just under one gallon (4 quartz). After draining I added new fluid and ended up adding 4 quartz Mercon V (kept checking level with engine running). Drove for 20 minutes and checked again...level was at top of cross hairs. This morning I wanted to check it again when cold and the level is one inch above the ball! How is this possible? Do I need to drain some of it off...or maybe try pumping it out?
note: car was always level when I checked fluid, and it drove and shifted fine on test drive.

Welcome to the site
Sometimes transmission will have torque converter drain back after setting for some time.
Since the brunt of the converter fluid is above pan levels, if the converter bleeds off a bit, the level in the Trans raises. Not terrible uncommon, more so in higher mileage units...
If fact,, in more moderate cases, after setting periods of time you may experience some delay in applications in D/R of a few seconds or so as fluid is replaced.. Once filled, normal functions..
The issue was probably there before your service, just not noticed.
The fill check heated should be correct/ed

When you mention checking it cold, is that a static check, or running in Park?
If converter drain back, It’s generally a check valve bleed at the front pump, but isn’t a concern in most cases..
