Default RE: 2009 Escape Trailer Wiring Connector

ORIGINAL: str8ball

Hi Mark,

I am looking to purchase the Relays for my Ford Escape 2009. I live in Canada and I have called multiple car parts dealers and couldn't find any that have the relays in stock. You indicated that you found some for $15. Do you have the name of the company you got them from?

Thanks.
same boat here! I only have 2 relays in the box and 4 are missing but have contacts, so let us know where u got them for 15$?

Default Relays and Fuses

I have an 08 - Canadian too.., bought the wire kit from UHaul, but would rather use the existing wiring. Any leads on these parts and prices?? The Uhaul kit is only about $60., but I don't like to cut into wires if possible. Nice video on the installation too...

you will have to go to the dealer. I just paid 50$ and had another harness connected and works great.

for escape owners (08-09) in canada..i found and purchased a T one connector by Tow Ready..its a plug in on the plug underneath the bumper on the driver side..works perfectly and with no wire splicing needed. Cost is $24. you can checkout their website www.towready.com and you can locate a dealer in your province. good luck

Default wiring for brakes

I have an 07 Escape with towing package. I have purchased a pop up camper with electric brakes. The escape has a 4 wire hook up, how do I wire in for the trailer brakes. Do I use the wire that is for the brake lights?

I got the pack of relays but now realized that my 09 escape has nothing to plug them in to. Where you able to find a way to use the use the relays and wire that is present on the car???

Unfortunately, if you look closely, you can see the spots for the relays have no contacts under them to accept the relays. Thus, nothing is installed as far as towing electrics go. I think the only way to wire it is splicing into the rear tail lights, which is probably what the shop did on your '08. I checked with Ford, the relays were going to cost $130 but didn't know there is nothing to plug them into.

The wiring harness I bought was from a local hitch shop. It was @12.09, but with no power to that connector, it's useless. Tow Ready has another harness that plugs into the tail lights, etc. It is part #118430. You can find it at www.towready.com. I'm going to talk to the hitch shop tomorrow to see what they suggest.

As I was not aware that my 2008 Ford escape does not have connections for the 3 relays, I went and found, through a freind, the 3 relays. They are miltipurpose, part# 5L3Z 14N089, As I cannot complete the installation, I am going to have a local hitch shop do it the old way through the rear lights. I got the relays for $20. ea. As I cannot return them for credit, I would sell them for what the cost me, and will pay shipping in the USA, but not to Canada.
