Default 2011 escape xlt 2.5 liter

I bought this thing a few months ago with lots of issues..I started by replacing spark plugs and coils..it ran somewhat better..changed EGR valve..no change..changed cam pos sensor..minor improvement..changed crank sensor..minor improvement.

But the main problem is still there so I haven't found the problem yet. when driving on the highway it'll go from running pretty much perfect..to all of a sudden running like it's off of its timing. .to get the vehicle to speed up when it like that requires way more gas peddle than it did before..then just as suddenly it will run near perfect again.

each of the switching from good to bad and back to good again can sometimes take less than a minute. and then other times it'll run at 110 km per hour perfectly until I slow down 10 or 20 km per hour and then switches back and forth as stated above.

What the hell is the problem? PCM?? Help!!

Sometimes there could be a problem and it may not lite the check engine light.
However, there might be a code in the computer, which if there is could give us a little guidance.
Places like Autozone will check for any codes and do it for free, Can you do that?

spark plug wires could be intermittent

have you monitored fuel pressure when this misfire occurs?

Hi..this model has coils on top of the plugs..I'll check the fuel pressure next..I'm going to check the throttle body..I think this may be the problem..

IIRC Escape, not sure what years, had issues with TB. There was a TSB for it.

Yeh brain fart....coil on plug. coffee hadn't kicked in yet

rockauto likely best $ on TB if that is it

0301,0302 would typically be cyl 1&2misfire...but when car is stumbling for whatever reason (say low FP for example) the car "misfires" because of the low FP, not that there is a ignition issue with cyl 1&2 but the stumble is seen by PCM which references what cyl misfired as a result of the low fuel pressure induced stumble

A FP check would rule in/out a fuel issue. You already replaced coils & plugs so things like TB.....or MAF (try cleaning MAF) could be the issue

It's the throttle body in which Ford will cover the cost. Was not an official recall but one less than that. Look it up on Ford website.

Good luck

yep...google brought up several posts about defective TB's. Not sure what, if any, mileage or age to get Ford to fix for free

Search for TSB on it (technical service bulletin)...not a recall but is what a dealership would use to replace it at Fords exspense
