Access to Wiring in Liftgate and Headliner

Hi,
Just got a 2013 Escape. I want to add backup sensors around the rear license plate and so I need to open up the interior covering for the liftgate. It looks like removing the interior covering is the only way to replace the backup lights, as well. Does anybody know the correct procedure, so that I don't damage anything?
Also, I'd like to tap into a power line in the headliner and I need to know how to open up the headliner enough to get at the wiring above the headliner at the dome light switches.
Thanks for any help!

Be careful. The newer vehicles with lighting modules and modules for many functions DO NOT like miscellaneous additions. Suggest you make sure before tapping into any wiring. Unbelievable problems start when circuits are added when various modules are involved. If possible get a wiring diagram for your particular vehicle or run the wires in a separate circuit of its own right from the battery observing the usual safety precautions.
The modules were incorporated to save wiring and the associated work with it. There is a good possibility the modules are part of a network and can affect other functions when altered.

Ok, understood, you're probably right. I'd run a new line except that the work would be in the lift-gate, making the wire routing way too destructive...

Hope we saved you some grief.
Many vehicles have the necessary equip to do what you were contemplating . It doesn't hurt to ask a few dealerships what's involved with doing that with a 2013 model. They might just have a simple programming answer.
