Car cranks too long before starting
2011 Ford Escape Limited 3.0L V6 1. If car is left parked (off) for a couple of hours or more, it cranks for 4 to 8 seconds before the engine turns on. Then it runs great. 2. The car starts normally If the ignition key is turn to ON for 10 sec, then to OFF, then again to ON for 10 sec, ALWAYS. 3. The car also starts normally if it is off only a few minutes. I suspect that my fuel pressure goes low when leaving the car off. The longer it remains off, the longer it cranks. I found a fuel pressure sensor, but I have not found a fuel regulator (is there one?). can the sensor cause this? Any suggestions will be deeply appreciated. Thank y'all |
Could be either of these,
defective check valve in line from pump to engine, defective fuel press reg Both are part of fuel pump module in fuel tank. |
Thanks for your reply hank, After two weeks of turning key to ON 10 seconds before starting, the car is staring just find now, without delay. Did I just reprogram the initial throttle position in the PCM???? Any way, car has 87k miles, so will replace original spark plugs, check battery, new filters, etc. oh yes, just added fuel cleaner to the tank. i just do not like problems that magically disappear. btw, the car is well maintained. Throttle is clean, no vacuum leaks, etc. thanks to all. Great forum |
You never know when you're "gonna get lucky."
I am inclined to agree with your reasoning about problems that magically disappear. If a check valve was sticking and you managed to get it to work, however you did, let's hope it works correctly from here on in. It's always great to hear a problem corrected itself, thanks for the update ! |
