Default Ford Escape 2018

I have purchased a used Ford Escape 2018. I cannot work out what the 'black plastic housing' is on the windscreen where the rear view mirror is attached. I looked in the user manual but cannot find anything. I had a similar vehicle (New) as a Company car 5 years ago but it was the base model and that vehicle didn't have this plastic housing. The 2nd hand car I purchased is the middle model of the range. Can anyone shed some light on this? Many thanks

If so equipped I think it is for accident avoidance, lane centering, auto high beams, and anything that needs to be "seen" from the front of the vehicle. I have a 2022 and those things (or at least some of them) are housed there. If you have none of these things, then I don't know what else it does. Good luck to you..
