P0496 then P04F0 2018 Escape
 

2018 Ford Escape 1.5L 96,00 miles. A little over a year ago, after my son fills up his car with gas, the car won't start until he tried a few times. After it starts, it runs fine and starts fine until he has to refill tank again. Since he is teen-age moron, he didn't tell me and I went to fill his tank one day and noticed the CEL on and witnessed the no initial start after adding gas. The error was the P0496 Evap code. After researching, I cleaned the capless fuel inlet and lubed and I ordered that goofy Evap assembly that has several hoses and the Evap valve. Took me 1.5 hours to install and it solved the problem initially. The car went 1236 miles until the light came on again. Since it was less than a year, I got a refund from Amazon and installed a second time. This time it took me 30 minutes. I cleared the code and went to fill up the tank and all was good. 3 months later, same code, same issue with filling up tank and starting. Amazon was great, I received a refund and ordered the part from a different vendor. The parts looked identical and there is no way to replace the valve only. Just install the new one and it fixed the problem again but, 2 days later and under 100 miles driven, a new error has come up, P04F0......It does NOT cause the same symptom as the P0496 where the car won't start after filling the gas tank and it drives fine.
