Replacement PCM options
Hi guys,
Been away for a while so have not had the chance to get the car fixed. Main dealer has quoted for a PCM 6000AED($1635) with discount. And for new plugs and Coils 2000AED($545) + labour. Now my car is only worth roughly $6000. Economically its not worth getting new part. The part number given by dealer was FD5L8Z 12A650 AC. Will double check tomorrow morning by taking it out. Have looked in scrap shops but i cant find same part number. Can someone tell me what part numbers are compatible with the car? what the part numbers mean ie the letters and different bits. Again would like to mention. I live in Dubai, UAE. 2005 Ford Escape. 3.0 auto 4x4 Engine number: 5KD38466 Chassis number: 1FMYU92115KD38466 Part Number: FD5L8Z 12A650 AC |
Do you know someone in the U.S. that you could send money to, and have them ship those parts to you? I'll bet that would be a lot cheaper.

Here in Minnesota I called O'Rileys Auto Parts, and they said they can get a PCM for $454.99 with a $60.00 core. Special order, seven to ten business days, Cardone, part number: 78-1440F. Remanufactured. The PCM will need to be pre-programmed (flash) so they'll need to know the VIN number, odometer reading, and any modifications. Coil on plug cost about $109.00 ea. Not sure if there are any other PCM's that will work on your vehicle. I will do some research, and make some calls Monday to the local salvage yard. Have no idea what the alphanuemarics mean. |
She starts now
Quick update guys.
I got around going to different scarp yards and found a PCM, 6L8Z 12A650 L?. Cant remember the last letter but they were different. Got new leads and plugs. Got it programmed and she starts and drives. :) When they started the car with old part the exhaust was getting red hot so they took it off and cleaned it out but never tightened it properly. It started blowing after couple 100 KM's. Got it tightened and now she purrs along nicely... But thrown an engine light. the guy showed me the codes and they were 2 O2 sensors and some vacum problem in or on top of fuel tank. mechanic goes. Just drive around for a week to test the PCM and then come back and we will look at the new problems. i have driven couple of hundred KM's and she is driving fine. The Cost so far... Dealer diagnostic: 450aed= $122 Breakdown Charges: 450aed= $122 Used pcm 1400aed = $381. Coils 6= 840aed= $ 228 Plugs: 150aed= $40 Labour:1000aed= $272 Total to get her fixed= $1165 |
Glad to hear you got it running again. Good to see the cost was reasonable too.
And thanks for posting an update. Cheers. |
