Tranny fluid level?
 

Need to know A.S.A.P. I was down a little tranny fluid, and tapped it up, now when I drive into town it reads all the way at the top of the dipstick, above the do not add line. I put in half a jug and it came up a bit, and checked it half way about 25 mintues driving and it was just near top of add, so I figured may as well put the whole bottle in..

I have a leak and A friend said it will just force more out the leak with the pressuer. Some time ago at ford I ask a mechanic about this and he told me it had an over flow on my 2010 escape and that I could not do any harm over filling it. Everyone else says he was full of you know what.

So my question is how bad is it to over fill by about half a bottle? Does anyone know where the pressure valve is on this transmission? A friend of my says they all have one and maybe mine is blocked and causing a build up of pressure and higher reading? says this could also contribute to the leak from the added pressure.

Any help or advice would be great. Can anyone suggest how to take some out?

Transmission Vent?
 

Could anyone please tell me where the vent for my 2010 Escape's transmission would be located. I am trying to check if it is blocked and causing a pressure increase, which I am told could contribute to my transaxle leak?

The vent is almost always located on the top of the trans usually toward the driver's side. Some have a slightly curved pipe/tube about a 1/4 in dia. extending about an inch or two , others have a vent with a type of top hat that is loosely attached directly over it about 1/2 in dia. You may have to search really close since it may be under other wires, hoses, or other obstructions.
One way to extract excess fluid is to insert a piece of clean tubing down the fill tube (vinyl works well) and suck it out with something like a turkey baster or enema ball, don't laugh, it works !

Where is the trans leaking from? Have you been able to pinpoint it?

Thank you! I think the tranny leak is coming from the transaxle on the drivers side. Dont know if that is the correct term? It is the part that the rod comes out of then goes to the rod that goes to the cv boot and then on to drives the wheel.

that's called a half shaft and the axle seal is leaking so it should be replaced. if it was mine that car would go to a shop to have it done because one has to take the front end loose to get the half shaft out of the trans. to replace the seal

A lot of times you can get away with just replacing the seal. There usually is a reason the seal leaks and that could be due to wear on the end of the half-shaft or excess slop in the fit of the half-shaft to the differential. Depending on what equip you have to use and what you find once disassembled that might be a better decision to have a well equipped shop do the job.
