Default Trunk release will not work.

Hi folks, I would love some feedback on my latest problem. We drive a 2010 Escape and the rear hatch will not open when I push the keyfab, or the button on the trunk.

It works on a off and seem to have a mind of it's own. I will try it 20 time then it opens using the button on the hatch. Then one minute later it will not open.I have taken the back panel off, but do not know where to look from there.

Does anyone know how to tell whether it is the latch, button or the little motor that move the lock? would really appreciate any help, Thank you!
