Turned off in reverse, unable to turn back on

Default Turned off in reverse, unable to turn back on
Hi guys, last night I got home and parked my Escape SUV, but instead of turning it off in parking, Ileft it on reverse and I couldn't make it turn back on!! This morning, when I tried to turn on the engine, I was unable to get it started and I couldn't move the handle to parking either. Does anybody know what might caused this problem?

My wife just went thru this on Aug. 17th. The shifter cable had snapped.
