Default 93 esort wagon bad hisitation

hey all, I have a 93 escort wagon, manual transmission that when you accelerate it falls flat on its face for a second or 2, then revs up . does it real bad at highways speeds at about 50-60mph. I cant seem to track it down. has anyone else experienced this?
thanks

I would normally say to check for codes first but on a 93, the information will be very limited. I would start with checking the fuel system. Items include fuel pressure which sould be about 40 psi and the fuel filter. I am assuming your 93 has a throttle body injection with the shrader valve being on the throttle body.Fuel fiter should be very easy to change once the pressure is relieved via the shrader valve.
Lastly, a problem could exist with the throttle position sensor. That can be easily checked with an ohm meter. Look for "dead spots" as the sensor is slowly rotated.

That's good. I would keep the old one as a spare. It's wire may just need to be sprayed (cleaned ) with MAF cleaner.
