ENGINE RUNS LEAN (SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT)

Okay, the last message I posted worked great and you all helped this non-mechanic fix the car with a $3 part. Now I have a new issue.

My daughter's 99 ZX2 got the "Service Engine Soon" light. I told her to take it to the auto parts store and have the computer read. They did it, and the message was that the engine was running lean. Aserby and the auto parts guy had a disagreement over whether it was being caused by an EGR (?) valve sticking or a clogged fuel filter. She also says it sometimes hesitates when she gives it gas.She is away at college (Go Gators) and will be coming home next week, at which time I am expected to fix her car. Any suggestions on how to proceeed?

RE: ENGINE RUNS LEAN (SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT)

Get a can of brake cleaner or carb cleaner and spray around vacum lines and throttle body, a lot of lean codes will be caused by vacum leaks. IIRC there is a vacum line near throttle body that has a tendency to rot and create leak. Hesitations will also be caused by Mass Air Flow sensor. And there is slight chance the coolant temp sensor is registering to hot and engine is leaning out to compensate.
