New Engine Or Not ?

Hi Friends,

My wife owns a 98 Ford Escort 4 CY 2 L FUEL IN.
She needs another engine.
IMO it's wiser to buy a new engine rather than buy another car, the body is in great condition, it has a new alternator as well as other normal wear & tear repairs.

How much can I get a brand new, not rebuilt engine for her car ?
I'd rather spend $2,000.00 on a new engine & have a car that was like new than to have a used car for the same price !

Opinions ? :)

Hello and good day to you:

May I ask a few Questions First?

1. Are you going to do the Work yourself replacing the Engine?
2. Why would you not want a Complete Rebuild Engine?
3. Why does she need a New Engine?? What happen???

Thank you and Please advise further....

RE: New Engine Or Not ?

Hi Sterling,

No, I have a friend with a good rep that is doing the work for $400.00
A re-built engine is fine...I was just 'asking' the price of a new engine.
I found a few rebuilts for roughly 2100, 3yr warranty or 100,000 miles all backed & serviced by Ford.
She was driving through town, the service engine light came on & the car barely made it to a parking spot.
The mechanic 'which is known to be honest' says she needs a new engine. the engine when you start it clicks real loud as if a rod is broken.

Thoughts ?:)

:eek:....Cat...Droping a new 2.0L SOHC into that would be very expensive...with your above option (as noted above) I would definitely go with the 3yr or 100K Rebuild....And to be Honest...That is a Hell of a deal if the Price is Right..

I know with things being what they are with the Economy it is hard to replace an engine...I would ask you do me one little favor before you go with the engine:

Get a Second opion....and call around to see what the Cost would be to have the "Rods", and the Cylinder Head Replaced...

Good Luck,,,and keep us advised.
