Not Charging
Hello,
I was wondering if anybody had any ideas on this problem. My battery is not being charged by the alternator. Here are things I replaced: 1. Battery 2. Alternator 3 Belt - the belt is turning the alternator properly 4. Voltage regulator 5 all plugs are secure 6. checked voltage from battery only getting 10v? 7 checked voltage from the alternator..getting 8V? 8. all the contacts are good. no corrosion is it possible it's the wires? or am i missing something here? oh and my battery light is on.lol and the brake light..i think i have a lightly seized rear drum..i really don't think that would do anything.lol |
RE: Not Charging
[sm=welcomesign.gif][hr]When you checked voltage from the alternator..getting 8V? [hr]Was the car running?[hr]If not what is the voltage out put when it is running?
|
RE: Not Charging
yes that's when it's running and if im not mistaken the output from the battery alone should be 14.1 to 14.7 is that correct?
|
RE: Not Charging
Yes it should be around 14v.[hr]If you are getting 8v from the alternator running the alternator is no good.
|
RE: Not Charging
ok thanks for the info...maybe i have a bum multimeter.lol
|
RE: Not Charging
sorry i also forgot to mention i had the original alternator bench tested and it was fine
|
RE: Not Charging
it was also fine before winter it sat for 7 months and now it's doing this
|
RE: Not Charging
What year is the escort ?[hr]And where is the voltage regulator on this car?
|
RE: Not Charging
it's a 91 winter beater escort.lol
ummm to be honest i dont know what voltage regulater im running other than to say it's stock and that a new one came with the alternator and the original was fine. |
RE: Not Charging
well at least i think the original was fine i think the bench test also tests that but now i'm not certain
