2001 shut down while driving

My 2001 diesel shut down while driving.

This happened once before and a new cam position sensor fixed it. I replaced the sensor agin this time but the engine will not run/idle. I bought the part at our local auto supply (after market part), should I have bought a Ford part or is there something else that I should do to complete the repair? ie re-set computer? The service light is on since the part replacement also.

This vehicle seems to be an electronic mess.
1)back up sensors stopped working
2)the door locks don't lock/unlock, 100% of the time. They sound like they are functioning but aren't.
3)mileage has declined
4)this is the second cam position sensor I have replaced.

RE: 2001 shut down while driving

This is going to sound crazy.....

But....it could be your Speed Sensor, or your PNP switch. Those are govenrned to shut off at 100MPH or something like that, so if the speed sensor is screwed up it could be telling the diesel pump to shut off fuel.

If your PNP switch is screwed up then it will tell it it is neutral or park all the time.......see if you can put it in drive and start the engine.

later,
Dustin
