2002 Excursion ltd, 10 cyl headlamps out

Both headlamps went out at the same time. Fuses okay. Help! What else can I check?

Did both, Hi and Low beams quit? If so, a good place to start would be the grounds for the headlites.

I hate to be dumb, but where are the grounds?:D

Two things;
1. Do you have the owner's manual for your vehicle?
2. Once you open the hood , you will see wires coming from the negative post of the battery to the sheet metal via one wire. That is the first connection to ck. Then you will see other wires going from the sheet metal (fenders) to other sheet metal parts. All they do is make sure that all sheet metal is connected to the negative post of the battery. I believe the headlights have their own wire connecting them to the common ground connection.With the hood open and the headlites turned on you can try wiggling the wires coming from the headlites and maybe they will come on if that is the problem area. If you don't have any success with those steps one would need to trace the circuit from the headlight switch itself to determine if power is available to the switch. Are you sure you didn't accidentally disable some function that serves to operate the headlights automatically?
