2003 Excursion Sloppy steering

Hello everyone I have a 2003 Excursion 6.0 td with a 6 inch Donhoe suspension lift. I have had lots of problem with my steering in the last 2 years. I have replaced my steering box twice it works great for about amonth then I start having to much steering free play. I tow a 29ft toyhauler and cannot have this free play with trailering. HELP!!

RE: 2003 Excursion Sloppy steering

I have a 2003 EXCUR with the 7.3 diesel and 85,000 miles, I just had all my front linkage reaplaced by a buddy that is a FORD front end Mech. Not only did I have play on but once in a whlie it would make my steering wheel wobble, so they replaced it all, ball joints, tie rods, all the steering linkage parts, new bearings, new shocks, and now it thumps like
my BMW, maybe even better , so have a FORD guy take a look at it, oh we it aligned too, good luck!

My 2001 did the samething you need to go to ford and have them lookup a old TSB on the it will give you new part# for balljoints upper and lower that you can greese. i can tell when to change my oil by the then i just greese them up and it is good for 3000 more miles

RE: 2003 Excursion Sloppy steering

An age after buying my "GII Radius Rods", I found a local muffler & welding-shop that was prepared to fit the 'rods. Initial quotes were from $ 165 to $ 450 ! This fellow did it for $ 55;) Californians are bent-out-of-shape worrying about law suits if something goes wrong!
My 2005, 5.4l gas, 2WD Excursion has 27000 miles on the clock. By comparison to the first 20-odd thousand miles, it drives like a SPORTS car now. I can't get enough of driving it. Oh man, just give me any excuse and I'm off down the road :D
I can't understand why Ford didn't make it standard. Dealers do a whole quick-step side-step dance when you ask them about the steering problem and I got nowhere.
Thanks for a great product and incredibly detailed technical support!
Best regards,
D
